Festivals are the best time to receive and send gifts to your loved ones. It is absolutely wonderful to give presents but how and what you give out as gifts can be a reflection of your own self. Vastu and feng shui consultant Rashi Gaur lists few things to keep in mind to make your gifting process fruitful.

  1. If you give a bouquet of flowers, it will bring good luck to both the giver and the receiver.
  2. When gifts are wrapped in bright papers like gold or red and tied with red and gold ribbons, it becomes even more auspicious. Do not wrap them in old used newspapers as it takes away the prosperity factor.
  3. Do not gift chipped or cracked items as it brings bad luck to the receiver and giver of the gift.
  4. Items that are well past the expiry date should never be given as presents as they not only bring bad luck to the sender and receiver of the gift but can also ruin the friendship between them.
  5. Wall clocks and watches should not be given by a younger person to an older one as this represents the passage of time.
  6. Do not pass on the boxes of gifts like chocolate and sweets gifted to you by someone as they are blessings of sweet things that are yet to come in your life. Gifting them away would mean you are giving away the blessings that you were to receive. So consume them with love.
  7. Give symbols of prosperity that can add a dash of luck to your home and bring abundance year after year to both of your lives. Horse on a bed of coins, also known as the tribute horse, will not only look good when displayed but also attract the wealth luck. Elephants with trunks raised are a great symbol of protection and abundance. You can gift a pair to your loved ones. Cranes (birds) are a beautiful symbol of longevity. Keeping them close to the entrance will bring a stable happy energy to the household.
  8. Charms such as evil eye, four-leaf clover, swastika and horse shoe make for beautiful gifting items. Give the ones that people can hang on the door or the wall. Bamboo stalks are not only life-giving when gifted in right numbers but can also bring prosperity and luck. 5 stalks bring wealth, while 6 and 9 bring luck. A bowl full of ingots displayed on the coffee table is a great symbol that attracts the wealth luck.
  9. Laughing Buddha makes for a wonderful gift to bring prosperity luck into the house. There are several options to choose from and each one is wonderful. For abundance get the Laughing Buddha with 5 children or with ingots. Place it diagonally opposite the entrance and let it face the main door.
