Glass plays an essential role in controlling heat and light in and out of the house. It is generally used for residential and commercial purposes. Architect Manmohan Khanna lists out the different types.

1

Stained glass are coloured glasses used for aesthetic purposes on windows of old buildings.

2

Reflective glass is a result of technology. When the intensity of light is less on one side and more on the other, it turns into a mirror and vice versa when the intensity level swaps.

3

Laminated glass also known as bulletproof glass is produced by adding laminate layers. Such glasses are used in high security zones and even in the cars of most VVIPs.

4

Tinted glass is another type of glass that reduces the brightness of light and hence used more in places where the brightness of sun is more than or in locations with extreme heat conditions.

5

Crinkled glass as the name suggests has a wrinkled surface and it is used for aesthetic purpose in interiors.

6

Glass bricks is an innovative material used by architects and designers to make floors, partitions and even roof. These help to bring light and can be used in bath cabins, toilet partitions or furniture pieces.

7

Reinforced glass is a type of safety glass that is storm-resistant. It can also withstand explosions and stop burglars from entering the house.

8

Translucent glass is slightly opaque and used in various applications depending on the purpose. Building envelopes, outside or inside windows, glass partitions or walls are some of the examples where this glass is used.

9

For interiors, sandblasted and toughened glass can be used. Sandblasted glass helps in creating unique patterns and can be used where privacy is required as the sandblasting adds opacity to the treated area. Toughened glass is much stronger compared to normal glass. It can be used on doors and windows and areas where floor to ceiling glazing is needed.
