Designers these days prefer uneven floors instead of leveled floor to provide a modern and different look to the interiors. Such experiments are mainly done in the entry, lobby, drawing room, living room, dining area or guest bedroom where it is constructed a bit lower than the house flooring. Expert SK Mehta lists certain factors to be kept in mind while getting this kind of construction done.

  1. If the floor of the north, east or North East direction is a bit lower compared to the other areas of the house, this is considered lucky.
  2. Always keep the bedroom or any other room situated in the South or West zone a bit high because this gives favourable results and is considered lucky.
  3. The floor level difference should be balanced. It should not be too low as a downfall pit or not too high.

  4. As per vastu rules, the front portion of the house should be constructed low and the back area should be on a higher point. Hence a main gate facing north or east facing is considered good.
  5. While creating steps on floor ensure it is not cut from any direction because this may cause various vastu issues.
  6. More than two uneven flooring in the entire house should be avoided because it can attract negative energies to the house.
  7. While planning stepwise construction of floors, ensure that the ceiling is leveled appropriately because it is considered auspicious.
  8. To attract positive energies, opt for stepwise flooring only for the basement and ground floor rooms.
