Indian history is famous for its vast tradition and culture. The country celebrates colours like no other, Rajasthan being famous for its colourful interiors. Architect Onal Kothari shares some of the design tips to decorate your house in Rajasthani style.

1Glorify with colours:

Colours are the storyteller that defines the presence of Rajasthan interiors. It’s never too bright or too dark to add blues, yellows, reds, pinks etc. in any of your space, when it comes to decorating your home the Rajasthani way.

2Wallpaper with stencil designs:

For a budget makeover, apply patterns and motifs on windows or doors. Decorate walls behind the bed using flora or block stencils.

3Decorating with lanterns:

Illuminate the outdoors and indoors with colourful lanterns.

4Crafted furniture and cabinets :

Curved wooden shelves, mirrors peeping through jharokas, low heighted sittings are the hallmarks of Rajasthan royalties.

5Vintage paintings, tapestries and bed linens :

Style the room with Bandhej and Leheriya fabrics from Rajasthan to enhance the look of your space. Vintage paintings by Rajasthan craftsmanship is another option.

6Use Rajasthani craftsmanship :

Get the ornate stone carvings for your entrance and style your living room with layered pots. Give your puja ghar a traditional touch with metal crafted bells; carpet your bedroom with hand-woven durries. Go aesthetic with traditional art.

7Space dedicated to tropical and exotic souvenirs:

Rajasthani antiques and kathputlis are famous throughout the world. Hang a pair of puppets to make your home tell a different story.

8Relaxing space :

Create a relaxing space with a swing or jhoola corner in the house. This can bring a playful and decadent vibe to your spaces.
