Any idea how many walls does a room has? Four? No. Every simple room has five walls, ceiling being the fifth and the most important one. So how high should be the ceiling? How big it should be? These are the kind of questions you might be curious about while constructing a house. There is no specific vastu rule for a ceiling, as this depends upon the area, structure and the kind of construction required for the house. Expert SK Mehta tells us a few vastu rules pertaining to the ceiling.
1
An ideal ceiling must be around 10-12 feet high. However, with the increasing trend of multistoried buildings, the builders reduce the height of the ceiling and increase one floor instead. But lower ceilings are not preferable, as they are a cause of obstacles in life and progress.
2
The height of the ceiling of the second floor should be lower than that of the ground floor by a factor of 1/12. A quarter is always preferred than a quarter and a half difference in the height.
3
A ceiling which is higher at the centre and lower at the corners is also considered good.
4
Never construct a sloping ceiling. Always have symmetrical ceilings with a clearly discernible shape, as unsymmetrical ceilings lead to mental problems and depression.
5
Mirrors should never be used on the ceilings even for decoration. Mirrors should always be used on the walls, that too on the north or east wall. Placing a mirror on the ceiling can lead to negative energy and create obstacles.
6
If you are using a dark colour on the ceiling, replace that with white, as this is the only color which is preferred for ceilings. Using darker colours bring bad luck. Also, you can use some different color combination on the corners.
7
Skylights not only help decorate the ceilings, but also create a vibrant and happy atmosphere in the room. Using skylight in the office helps in raising your career to heights. However, never place a skylight in your bedroom in a way which directly highlights your bed. It causes hindrance in peaceful sleep.
