Basements are zones of your home that can be turned to guest relaxation areas, entertainment spaces, supplementary storage etc. Depending on the size of the area, you can mould the space as per your requirements. It is vital to waterproof your area with the following guidelines by Ar. Alok Bhagat.

  1. Inspect the exterior
Take a tour of your home exterior as any moisture-related issues in basement are generated from the way you use your exterior spaces. Your inspecting checklist must involve checking the home grading system. As poor slope will allow water to enter the basement, inspect the home drainage system and check whether there is any clog or damage in the gutter.
  2. Fill the cracks
Cracks damage the structural strength of your home. It is also a common source of moisture and minimizes the value of your room and ultimately the home. The best way to get rid of all these issues is to apply hydraulic cement to the cracks. When hydraulic cement is applied to the cracks, it acts as a waterproof seal. For severe crack issues, it is advisable to call a professional.
  3. Concrete sealers
Apply concrete sealer with roller or brushes to waterproof walls and floorings of your basement. It is advisable to read the manufacturer’s instructions before use.
  4. Hire a professional
Waterproofing is not an easy task as it seems. A professional can guide with the right solution for your problem. It is always best to hire a professional to get the job done, overlooking the hidden or potential problems.
