They’re surprisingly affordable, stylish and do their job quickly and efficiently. Jagjeet Singh of Usha Company tells us why we should take induction plates very, very seriously…

  1. The major advantage of an induction plate is that it saves all the hassle that’s related to cooking with a gas cylinder. All you need is a plug, and you’re ready to go!
  2. Their compact size makes them attractive for kitchens where space is at a premium. What’s more, they're smart looking too!
  3. An induction plate equates to flame-free cooking. So in a way, this makes it environment-friendly too.
  4. The induction plate works quite fast. So what may take hours to cook, gets ready in a matter of minutes… which means the nutrients are also maintained. One study found out that induction cooking boils 1 litre of water in 2.58 minutes. An LPG stove takes 5.36 minutes to do the same job.
  5. An induction plate is easy to clean. One wipe of a wet cloth and you’re done! Compare this to all the scrubbing that goes into cleaning your gas stove.
  6. Although these plates depend on electricity, their operational costs aren’t that high.
  7. Induction plates come with several in-built functions and a timer, allowing you multi-tasking easily.
  8. These plates work brilliantly as food warmers as well, as the temperatures can be programmed and set. This is not possible with gas stoves.
  9. All though induction plates achieve high temperatures, the portion next to the induction coil does not get heated up. This is a plus for induction plates under the safety column.
  10. There is a wide price range to choose from: 2,500 INR to 5,500 INR, depending upon the looks and functionality.
Note:
There are special utensils that work on induction plates. Aluminium or glass utensils may break or melt.
