8 tips to care for winter flowers

We tend to take care of the interior and exterior of our house according to the seasons. Similarly, flowers need to be taken care with changing seasons. Plant nursery expert Pranay Chugh lists the winter flowers and gives simple tips for their care.
- Winter seasonal flowers, which bloom from September to January, can be planted in various decorative styles. Firstly, you need to plan a place with extremely porous soil with moist and light mud so that the roots can develop quickly. When the soil is soft, roots get more air to grow, and if the soil is hard, plants take a long time to grow.
- Wormy compost mixed with sand is the best way to make the soil porous. This compost is a kind of manure that can be purchased from any nursery. If compost is not available easily, you can also use the rotten cowdung for the same purpose.
- You can plant seasonals in a bed or a pot.
- Winter plants require water once in two days. Remember, application of fresh manure every fortnight is important along with loosening the mud.
- For better and quick growth of plants, Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K) are important. You can use a mix of NPK that is available in the market easily.
- If you'd like a profusion of flowers, add DAP (Diammonium Phosphate) to the manure. You can use this every 15 days, mixed with manure. Continue application even after the plant have started blooming.
- Plants are prone to fungus and black mites. Usually, seasonal plants are not prone to such attacks, but if they do, you can use insecticides and fungicides to cure them.
- Seasonal plants should be kept outdoors. If you want to keep these plants indoors, ensure that you expose them to sunlight every two days.
