Landscaping is a great way to liven up your home and office. Greens bring a feeling of calm and freshness to our daily life. However, not everyone has the space to house a lot of plants. An alternative to a full-fledged garden, says architect Mrunmayi Wadwekar, is indoor landscaping which involves creating a composition with just a few plants.

  1. Create a mini kitchen garden by growing potted herbs such as mint and coriander on your window sill.
A clutch of bubble-like terrariums holding tiny gardens within delights the eye.
  2. Bamboo can be planted in a clump to informally segregate space.
  3. Vertical gardens are a good idea if you are short of space.
  4. Create artful arrangements on tables and consoles for a mini garden of sorts.
A simple strategy for greening a small home: a group of suspended planters creates a vertical garden-like look.
  5. Window ledges offer great scope for greening. Same-sized or similar pots arranged in a row will please the eye.
  6. Use small planters that can be hooked on to balcony railings to form suspended rows of greens.
  7. A clutch of hanging planters or terrariums suspended in a group at varying heights will result in a garden in the sky!
Use artefacts and small potted plants to create charming design hotspots in a room, like this arrangement.
  8. Use beautiful pots to house indoor plants. Some focused lighting can also be used to maintain temperature around them.
Note:
Consider local plants that are used to your local climate.
Plants like spider plant, gardenia, bamboo, areca palm, etc are known to be safe around pets.
Aloe vera, apart from being medicinal, is a great for improving air quality.
Snake plant is known to filter formaldehyde which is present in cleaning products and toiletries. It can also thrive in low light and hence can be kept in washrooms.
