Doors normally consist of a panel that swings on hinges on the edge, but there are also doors that slide or spin inside of a space. Different types of front doors exist for different aesthetic preferences. In addition, you can also have a custom design. Architect Mrunmayi Wadwekar explores the most common types of front doors used in homes.

1 Single doors:

This is the most familiar type of door. It can open from left or right direction and is available in a number of styles and designs.

2 Double doors:

As the name suggests, French doors or double doors are two-leafed and open from the centre.

3 Dutch doors:

This door allows you to open the top and bottom door halves independently from one another. It is divided into two parts horizontally which can be opened separately.

4 Glass doors:

Doors can also denote different styles. For example, you can add glass to or around any kind of doors (sidelights and transoms). Some doors can consist of glass on the whole whereas others may just have a single panel or a series of glass tiles. Glass also offers a variety of options depending on its finishes, colours and designs such as clear glass, textured glass, patterned glass, etc.

5 Security doors:

Security doors are made of steel, but all steel doors cannot be called security doors. For security reasons, heavier gauge steel is used. These doors are preferred above all doors and are available in pleasing designs.
