Leather furniture spells luxury apart from offering comfort. Architect Mrunmayi Wadwekar gives simple tips on how to maintain leather furniture.

  1. Real leather requires specific material for maintenance. Therefore invest in good quality cleaning materials to maintain the life of your leather product.
  2. Leatherette is fairly easy to clean and can be cleaned using a wet cloth and dishwashing liquid at best.
  3. Avoid keeping leather or leatherette items in harsh sun for durability reasons.
  4. Heavily humid conditions like Indian monsoon tend to spoil real leather and promote fungus growth. In such conditions, dry out the leather without exposing it to any heat treatment. Also, a leather conditioning coat is advisable before every monsoon.
  5. Wiping with an oil coat will make the leather or leatherette shine and avoid getting moisture soaked in.
