With the increasingly hectic pace of our lifestyle and professional demands on time, a housekeeper is no longer a luxury, and indeed, they have become an integral part of the family. It’s no surprise then that large homes often allocate a room for staff. But since this room is a part of our home, its direction and location, too, should be aligned with codes of vastu, says expert Abhishek Shukla…
- The North West direction is best suited for staff quarters.
- If you don’t have space in the North West, the second best option would be to accommodate them in the South East direction.
- Never position this room in the South West or North East directions.
- The entrance door for this room should be in the North East or West of North West, while the windows should be along the North East.
- Keep the washroom in this room strictly in the South East.
- The walls can be painted a light yellow, light green or white.
- The cupboards can be placed in the West or South.
- The window panes and doors can be either of wood or plastic. You can also use POP and other finishes in the interiors.
- There is no rule that says staff quarters cannot be created on upper floors, but it is preferable if you make space for them on the ground floor.
- Ensure that there is no underground water channel or tank below this room.
